Learning Workshop: Revitalising Your Community

This workshop gives a comprehensive understanding of community development and helps participants identify strategies, develop plans and implement actions to revitalise their community. It gives people practical ways of engaging their community and ensures that actions link add to existing community work.

The workshop specifically aims to help participants:

  • Better understand economic and community development,
  • Expand practical skills and “how to” methods for everyday use in local communities,
  • Better deal with the practical realities of working in communities such as conflict
    management, group development and managing community relationships.

The workshop covers topics such as:

  • Understanding of the composition and function of your community,
  • What makes a vibrant community?,
  • Identifying and redefining local assets,
  • Addressing current issues in your community,
  • Fostering community participation,
  • Methods of engaging community members,
  • Dealing with power relationships and managing conflict,
  • Fostering effective groups,
  • Action planning and overcoming blocks to action.
 

The workshop is based on adult learning principles with extensive participation, practical examples from communities and respect for the experience and skills of participants.
